It’s hard being an adult. I mean, really. Don’t you agree? It’s a hassle. We have to wake up early in the morning, maybe even skip breakfast, go to work, then go back home feeling tired as hell. Oh, and we have to find time for the gym too because of course, exercise is healthy (and muscles help bring the ladies home *wink*).
After quite some time doing the same routine over and over and over again, you feel stressed and with this stress comes lower levels of testosterone. This testosterone depletion makes you feel even more tired and maybe you’ll even notice it being harder to gain or maintain muscle. Sometimes, even sex becomes uninviting. It’s hard to admit but it does happen. Thankfully though, Mother Nature gifted us with what we now call as adaptogens and among the best of them is the topic of today’s research review article – Ashwagandha.
Today, I’ll share what I think are the best testosterone products that have this herb as part of the core of their formulas. Also, I’ll guide you to a few researches supporting its use as a supplement for male health as well my own thoughts on the herb. Let’s start!
WHY TEST BOOSTER SUPPLEMENTS USE ASHWAGANDHA
Like I said, Ashwagandha is an adaptogen. But what exactly is an adaptogen? What does it do? Allow me to explain.
Adaptogens can be multiple things. It can be a compound, an herb, or maybe even a practice. Regardless of what form it takes though, what it does remains the same – promote physiological homeostasis which lowers your body’s sensitivity to stress. This particular effect is why it’s greatly honored by Ayurvedic practitioners in terms of balancing out the mind, the body, and the spirit.
To those who don’t follow the practices of Ayurveda though, Aswagandha has been known to enhance vitality, virility, and even muscular strength in both men and women.
And now that you know adaptogens can decrease stress, I want to talk about cortisol – our body’s stress hormone. In essence, the more you tire yourself out (physically, mentally, spiritually, etc) the higher your cortisol levels become. With elevated levels of cortisol, quite a lot of imbalances happen to your body including depleted testosterone.
In bodybuilding, adaptogens including Ashwagandha hold great value for their ability to lower levels of cortisol and thereby promoting healthy and elevated levels of testosterone. This, then, leads to a better ability to bulk up on muscle.
Aswagandha isn’t just limited to regulating cortisol though. In testosterone boosters, the libido and strength benefits of Ashwagandha are utilized to enhance the effects of elevated T and therefore bolster overall manliness. Let’s check out the research and see how this masculine herb does its magic.
STUDIES ON ASHWAGANDHA SUGGEST:
Improve sperm quality
That’s right. Our little swimmers get a boost, too. A study was done to examine the spermatogenic activity of Ashwagandha. The study was conducted by comparing two groups, one receiving Ashwagandha and another one getting a placebo. Semen parameters and serum hormone levels were then evaluated for both groups. Here are the results of the Ashwagandha treated team.
- Sperm count – 167% increase
- Semen volume – 53% increase
- Sperm motility – 57% increase
On the placebo group, all these effects were minimal.
Enhance Physical Performance
When Mother Nature created Ashwagandha, she was probably thinking about the welfare of athletes and thank god we’ve got scientists who figured this out.
A research was conducted to study the effects of Ashwagandha and Arjuna on physical performance and cardiorespiratory endurance. Several measurements were taken including velocity, power, and VO2 Max or maximum oxygen consumption. - Increased velocity
- Increased power
- Increased VO2 max
As evidenced by another research, athletes who took Ashwagandha as a supplement also had increased times on the treadmill before they reached their point of exhaustion. Combined, not only does Ashwagandha improve power, speed, and maximum oxygen uptake, it also benefits endurance. As we all know, these are essential factors that play in an athlete being competitive in his/her sport.
Increase manly hormones
Similar to the first couple of researches I referenced to in Ashwagandha improving sperm quality, another research was also done to evaluate the spermatogenic activity of this herb.
We already know that Ashwagandha can improve sperm quality. However, this particular study used KSM-66 which is a branded form of Ashwagandha that’s been standardized to contain at least 5% withanolide. Aside from measuring sperm parameters though, the study also measured serum hormone levels. These are their findings:
- Testosterone – 17% increase
- Luteinizing Hormone (LH) – 34% increase
All these manly benefits seem to stem from the active ingredients that can be found in Ashwagandha including withanolides and saponins. These compounds have well been observed in traditional Ayurveda and in recent studies to include a wide variety of effects including safely and effectively influencing libido and testosterone.
How Do I Take ASHWAGANDHA?
With quite a number of clinical studies using different dosages of Ashwagandha, there really isn’t a single number that I can personally suggest to you. Instead, I’ll give you a range of choices.
Based on my observations and in my experience writing reviews, a lot of stacks use around 500 mg of Ashwagandha water extract once a day. That should be option number 1.
Option number 2, you could also probably considering taking 300 mg of Ashwagandha root extract in two separate doses, equalling to about 600 mg per day. This is sometimes used in testosterone boosting stacks as well.
The 3rd option, which to me is the best option, is taking Ashwagandha as KSM-66. This brand is the same form use in the study that generated a 17% increase in testosterone along with the same masculine and sperm enhancements that you get from plain Ashwagandha. Since it’s branded and more bioavailable, 300 mg should be good enough to produce results.

There are quite a lot of herbs used as traditional man enhancers but not all of them have shown clinical, nutritional, and scientific evidence to actually prove that what they claim to do is effective. With all the research surrounding Ashwagandha’s natural wonder, I think it’s safe to say that it’s not one of those old-fashioned, obsolete herbs.
In summary, it pumps up libido, enhances physical performance, improves sperm quality, increases testosterone, and helps the body adapt to stress and fatigue. For busy Alpha Men looking to be even more Alpha, look no further than Ashwagandha.
