So, you’re thinking about losing weight, huh? That’s cool. There are plenty of fat-burners on the market to help you with that. However, what if I told you that, sometimes, you can get better results if you boost testosterone and burn fat at the same time?
Yes, you read that right – testosterone boosting and fat burning can, in my opinion, be a better angle for weight loss. And I say that with the greatest confidence. That being said, allow me take you through the ins and outs of the relationship between body weight and testosterone as well as a few tips and tricks.

HOW DOES TESTOSTERONE AFFECT WEIGHT?
Testosterone is an androgen that’s naturally made by our bodies. As an androgen, it’s in charge of developing characteristics such as muscularity, voice depth, bone strength, body hair, and even libido. Having said that, men normally have more testosterone than women which partly explains why these characteristics are typically more dominant in males than females.
I mean, it’s not everyday that you see women with more muscle and body/facial hair than their boyfriends, do you?
On the other hand, low testosterone can also have as much emasculating side effects. Unfortunately, testosterone naturally declines by about 1% per year after the age of 30. This means that we will all most likely have to deal with low T at some point in time.
When it comes to fat, one research says that testosterone “inhibits lipid uptake and lipoprotein-lipase (LDL) activity in adipocytes, and stimulates lipolysis by increasing the number of lipolytic beta-adrenergic receptors”.
- I know that sounds complicated but basically, this means that T prevents your adipose cells (fat cells) from storing fat and “bad” cholesterol (LDL) while also stimulating the breakdown of fat.
That being said, low T will diminish how well you build muscle and burn fat, ultimately contributing to weight gain.
However, age isn’t the only thing that can influence testosterone and weight
In truth, we encounter things in our everyday lives that contribute to weight gain and low testosterone. Perhaps a few of the most prominent examples are stress, lack of sleep, and poor nutrition. If you’ve strung together consecutive nights of inadequate sleep, aren’t eating the right foods, and are constantly stressed, you may be running the risk of decreasing your testosterone.
Furthermore, vices such as alcohol, marijuana, and even masturbation can also deplete T.
So, if you’re a young but overweight dude, you may want to take a look at your lifestyle, too. These everyday testosterone killers might also be part of the reason why you’re having trouble losing all that weight.
WHAT SHOULD MEN LOOK FOR IN A TESTOSTERONE BOOSTER FOR WEIGHT LOSS?
Honestly, there are hundreds, or probably even thousands of natural testosterone supplements available in the market. Sadly, not all of them are particularly effective at boosting test. From my experience writing reviews, there may even be less of them that also do a decent job at regulating weight.

WHAT FEATURES SHOULD A T-BOOSTER FOR WEIGHT LOSS HAVE?
This is the part where I show you features of a testosterone booster supplement that will ultimately lead to the above benefits. I will also include a few ingredients that do the job to make it easier for you to hunt down these elusive T booster/weight loss supplement hybrids. Start taking notes, boys!
ROBUST TESTOSTERONE BOOSTS
If you have your eyes on a particular product and you think it doesn’t have T boosting as its primary priority, I suggest you think twice before buying it. I mean, why even buy a testosterone booster that doesn’t, or has weak test boosting potential? Not to be mean, but you might as well buy those fancy diet pills if that’s the direction you’re going.
Having said that, I believe this is where it should all start for any supplement that dares call itself a “testosterone booster”. When a formula can, at the very least, properly boost testosterone, I think you’ve set your hormones and your entire body for more features that ultimately contribute to your weight loss goals. Before we talk about the other features though, take a look at some of the ingredients that support healthy testosterone:
- Vitamin D – Higher levels of Vitamin D have been linked to higher levels of testosterone. So, having a good dose of this manly vitamin is, in my opinion, always a good thing.
- Vitamin B6 – Similarly, low levels of B6 have been associated with a lower level of testosterone. As you could already tell, maintaining healthy levels of this vitamin might also help you get better T.
- Mucuna Pruriens – This herb is capable of stimulating the release of LH. Through a series of reactions, this will also boost testosterone production. Look for one that’s standardized for L-Dopa, Mucuna’s active ingredient, to fully maximize its benefits.
- D-Aspartic Acid – Perhaps the single most powerful T boosting ingredient used in testosterone boosters, research shows DAA boosting testosterone by 42% in 12 days.
PROMOTE MUSCLE GROWTH
When you find a supplement that can effectively boost testosterone, one of the other features I believe you should look for is the ability to stimulate muscle growth. Of course, higher testosterone contributes to anabolism but, in my opinion, it’s also quite important that a supplement for weight loss further advocates the development of muscle mass.
Well, we all probably know that different people have different metabolisms. Someone could be eating a box of donuts for breakfast and still be stick thin while someone else eats salad and still have a hard time losing weight – it’s unfair, I know, but that’s just how it is.
If you’re the latter, research says that “skeletal muscle metabolism is a major determinant of resting energy expenditure”. So, with more muscle, your body basically burns through more calories which can also help you shave off those extra pounds. These ingredients can help:
- Fenugreek – This herb boosts testosterone while also limiting estrogen – a topic that we will get to later. Furthermore, it also seems capable of increasing growth hormone which then helps your muscles, well… grow.
- Coleus Forskohlii – A research on this herb’s active ingredient, forskolin, noted higher levels of testosterone alongside its benefits in body composition (lower body fat, more lean muscle).
BETTER ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE
This goes hand-in-hand with the previous feature. After all, how do you intend to build muscle without actually putting in the work? You have got to devote at least a little bit of your time to exercise. When you do, you not only force your muscles to grow and adapt, you increase your metabolism, too.
That being said, finding a testosterone booster that helps with exercise can help make the process that much easier. In this particular regard, here’s what I suggest you look for:
- Ashwagandha – This herb is an adaptogen which means it helps your body adapt to stress. Beyond its stress-relieving properties, however, it is also an effective testosterone booster with research-backed benefits on strength, speed, and endurance.
- Zinc – Like Vitamin D and Vitamin B6, Zinc is crucial to maintaining healthy levels of testosterone. Furthermore, it helps inhibit the drop in T that typically happens after a workout which should help with physical performance.
- Magnesium – Mg is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions. With this much involvement, it’s clearly one hell of a mineral. A few of its properties involve energy production, nerve conduction, muscle contraction, and protein synthesis (needed for muscle growth)
INCINERATE FAT AND PROMOTE THERMOGENESIS
Testosterone boosters for muscle mass typically promote muscle growth, physical performance, and of course, high testosterone. However, what sets T boosters for weight loss apart from its mass building counterparts is a sharper ability to burn off fat and increase thermogenesis.
I’ve already mentioned a couple of ingredients that can do this but allow me to further explain how one such ingredient does its magic:
- Like I said, Fenugreek also has energy boosting properties. According to research, this herb does this by promoting the use of fat as an energy source instead of glucose (carbohydrates). Essentially, Fenugreek burns through fat to help fuel your workouts.
Coleus Forskohlii does a good job of burning fat while boosting testosterone, too. However, based on my observations, most T-booster/weight loss hybrids also use ingredients typically seen in fat burners, such as:
- Green Tea – This drink is popular in the cafes I go to but I also see it in several weight loss supplements. It has polyphenols (e.g., EGCG) which are compounds that have been linked with fat loss. *White Tea has similar benefits, too.
- Caffeine – I personally like my caffeine in a cup of coffee but, regardless of my preference, it does seem to do a good job of promoting fat metabolism and increasing thermogenesis.
- Capsaicin – Produced by chilli peppers such as Cayenne, Capsaicin is what makes these peppers spicy. Furthermore, it also increases thermogenesis while suppressing appetite, making it great for when you’re trying to stay on a calorie-restricted diet.
CALIBRATE HORMONAL PROFILE
Testosterone helps people lose weight, yes, but it can’t do its job properly if you’ve got imbalances everywhere else. Think of weight loss as a team project with testosterone as the leader – even if T does its job well, the entire project is still going to suck if everyone else in the team isn’t cooperating.
That being said, here are a few hormones and enzymes that I believe a T booster should regulate if it intends to help manage weight.
Cortisol is a stress hormone; the more stressed you get, the higher your cortisol will be. Unfortunately though, cortisol and testosterone don’t go well together. In fact, higher levels of cortisol tend to decrease levels of testosterone. Furthermore, it is also a catabolic hormone which can hinder T’s anabolic properties.
For this reason, stressed individuals tend to gain more weight and lose more muscle. Does that sound familiar? Sounds a bit like you, doesn’t it? Well, for one, try not to get too stressed. Next, try to look for a testosterone supplement with adaptogens in its formula to help you deal with rising cortisol. One example, as I’ve already mentioned, is Ashwagandha but here are a few others:
- Rhodiola Rosea – This herb toughens up your body’s resistance to stress which helps maintain levels of both cortisol and testosterone.
- Tongkat Ali – TA is mostly known for its superb effects on libido but, as research suggests, it is also capable of boosting testosterone and lowering cortisol, particularly in stressed men and women.
- Ginseng – These plants are popular for their benefits on stress and fatigue. If I were you though, I’d look specifically towards Panax (a.k.a Asian or Red) Ginseng as it seems to be the most effective.
If androgens such as testosterone are “male sex hormones”, then estrogens are the feminine counterpart. Also, although we men typically have more T, our bodies naturally produce estrogen, too, albeit to a much lesser degree than females.
Estrogen plays a role in fat storage, especially around your mid-section. Conversely, a bigger gut is also a symptom of high estrogen in men. That being said, you’d want lower levels of estrogen paired with higher testosterone if you want to lose weight. In this regard, I suggest you look for anti-estrogen ingredients (a.k.a aromatase-inhibitors) in your T-boosting stack.
- Diindolylmethane (DIM) – This herbal compound is perhaps the most commonly used aromatase inhibitor in testosterone supplements. It’s got plenty of research to back its benefits but most of them are centered around women’s health. If you ask me though, I’d go for next ingredient on this list.
- Luteolin – Luteolin isn’t as widely used as DIM but, in my opinion, it holds more potential. It’s also not as heavily researched but with the studies that it already has, it seems just as potent as pharmaceutical-grade aromatase inhibitors.
Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin or SHBG is a glycoprotein that binds to hormones which, of course, includes testosterone. When SHBG is bound to T, however, it pretty much renders the hormone useless, making T unavailable to interact with androgen receptors around skeletal muscle.
This lowers your body’s ability to synthesize protein and, ultimately, grow muscle. Consequently, the lack of muscle also negatively impacts metabolism, making it harder for you to lose weight. So, the next time you go on a hunt for testosterone boosters to help you shed those extra pounds, look for one with ingredients that inhibit SHBG, including:
- Stinging Nettle – This herb has aromatase-inhibitting properties which make it capable of reducing estrogen. However, it also has lignans that bind to SHBG in place of testosterone, leaving you with more “free” T.
- Boron – Boron works fast and like Zinc and Magnesium, it’s one hell of a manly mineral. Not only does it block SHBG for more bioavailable T, it also boosts other testosterone boosters such as Vitamin D and Mg.
