Every male adult will experience this kind of situation as they age: you wake up in the morning feeling a bit more fatigued. If you head to the gym, it seems to be harder to get through your normal workout routine. You might experience a lower sex drive, less strength, and other issues even though you’re keeping in pretty good shape.
It’s not something you’re doing wrong; it’s a part of the natural aging process. Your body is producing less testosterone and, more importantly, you have less free testosterone flowing throughout your system.
Free testosterone is vital for boosting energy levels, building muscle mass, having more stamina, and your libido. When testosterone is bound to albumin, a protein, or SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin), it is not going to be readily available to the body until the hypothalamus determines that it is necessary. This can limit the benefits testosterone provides for gaining muscle mass, boosting stamina, elevating energy levels, and having a strong and healthy sex drive.
Anacyclus purethrum has been advertised as being highly effective at boosting testosterone levels in the body. There have been some research studies conducted on laboratory rats, but to date none on human subjects. It is still a good idea to take a close look at these research studies that have been conducted on rats to determine whether anacyclus purethrum can actually help boost free testosterone in the body.
What is Anacyclus Purethrum?
Anacyclus purethrum is derived from a perennial herb that is very similar to chamomile. It is similar in appearance as well as its natural habitat to this more common herb. In certain parts of the world, ingredient is often referred to as “spreading pellitory.”
It is commonly found in north African regions as well as throughout the Mediterranean area. It can also be located in the Himalayas, North India, and in certain Arabian countries.
Usually this ingredient has a pungent aroma but is commonly used to treat toothaches and to promote an increase in saliva. It is also favored as a food spice in certain cultures. When applied to the skin, it can induce heat, tingling, and redness.
Extracts from this plant have been used for centuries as an Ayurvedic medicine. It has been most recently noted to have an anabolic activity that could suggest testosterone boosting influences.
Is Anacyclus Purethrum Effective?
We looked at three significant studies conducted on ingredient, but these all were done with laboratory rats. It is most efficient when research studies are conducted on human subjects when it pertains to testosterone boosting supplements.
Two of these research studies that we found, though, appear to have been conducted by the same team of researchers at the same facility. They are each independent research studies, and that is important to note as they looked at different treatments options and various other factors.
We have summarized the three research studies below.
In this first research study conducted by Sharma, Boonen, et al. at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in India, the researchers provided an ethanol solution of anacyclus purethrum extract that was administered to various Wistar rats in the following dosages: 50, 100, and 150 mg/kg.
The test group was compared to a control group of rats that did not receive this supplement.
It was determined that a significant increase in serum testosterone levels was found in the treated rats. There was also a significant increase in luteinizing hormone, which is important when talking about testosterone boosting levels. Luteinizing hormones help to stimulate the synthesis of androgen in males, which helps to boost testosterone levels naturally in the body.
While the researchers were focused on determining the effectiveness of ingredient at enhancing spermatogenesis, they did determine that it is effective at boosting serum testosterone levels.

In the second study, Sharma, Thakur, et al. conducted at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in India, tested Wistar rats. In this study, though, the researchers looked at the effects of a petroleum ether extract of a variation, or derivative, of anacyclus purethrum. They were looking at any effect it might have on the sexual behavior of male rats.
They did not directly test testosterone levels, but they did find a significant increase in certain sexual behaviors of those male rats. Even after 7 and 15 days had lapsed following treatment, an increase in sexual motility was continued to be observed.
The researchers concluded that anacyclus purethrum was useful in enhancing sexual activity in normal, healthy male rats.

In the final study conducted by Sharma, Thakur, et al. at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in India, conducted in 2009, the researchers tested albino rats on how effective anacyclus purethrum is in anabolic, aphrodisiac, and reproductive activity.
They provided a lyophilized aqueous extract of 50 and 100 mg/kg to the tested lab rats.
Again, these researchers did not directly test for testosterone levels, but noted that sperm count and fructose levels were markedly increased in seminal secretions. They also noticed an increase in sexual behavior of the tested male rats.

While the only research we have found with regard to anacyclus purethrum and testosterone levels in the body were conducted by the same researchers, albeit over a span of three years, and even though they were only conducted on laboratory rats, there is positive evidence that anacyclus purethrum can actually boost testosterone levels in the body.
As further research studies are conducted, hopefully on human male subjects, they will be posted here to help highlight the benefits of anacyclus purethrum at boosting overall testosterone levels in the body.
